IMG_2553.JPGHome. Home is the foundation of life. Home is where memories are made. Home sets the path for a person’s future.

Urban Ministries is a home, both literally and symbolically.

Urban Ministries symbolizes home and our student council family recognizes this. They have made us feel at home. They have made us feel welcome. I have to say the first time I walked into UM, I was blown away by their kindness and passion. They are dedicated to their service and volunteering. I want to be just like them. I want people to see me and see that same dedication ingrained in me. UM welcomed us to join their mission with open arms. They were extremely enthusiastic about wanting us to help and they want us to enjoy it as well. We became a family.

Urban Ministries set out on a mission to find a major problem in our society and to then combat it. They did research and found that homeless women were the most endangered population when it comes to crimes of violence and sexual assault. In response to this, they built the Helen Wright Center, another home. It houses women and gives them the foundation they were lacking before. It is a foundation they can rely on and depend on in any situation. I have to reiterate that UM’s dedication creates a path for their future and puts them on a path where they can continue their lives with a sense of independence.  Their situation is most likely not their fault, it was probably due to unfortunate circumstances, but that shouldn’t stop others from helping. It should fuel the fire and make us want to give them the life they deserve, and it does.

These effort of raising money over the past few weeks has not just been for any charity, it has been for Urban Ministries! The trust, the gratitude, and the respect has been more than enough. UM and Charity Ball have a true purpose and true meaning. They exemplify wonderful traits, traits that I hope I will have one day. They have taught me the true meaning of service and giving back. Charity Ball made me realize that a home is what matters most in someone’s life. It made me realize that those less fortunate than us need a home. It has set me on a mission to help give those who are less fortunate a home because they deserve it. To me, this is what Charity Ball is all about. I know that this year’s Charity Ball will be the best Charity Ball yet and hope to see you on December 10.
