The Feeling

“We’re not interested”

That’s the sound I usually get from going door to door. After giving them the spiel, most of them turn me away, and those who don’t usually give like $10. To be perfectly honest, most of Charity Ball fundraising is pretty draining. Getting the door shut on you. Waking up early to give coffee and hot chocolate, and also standing out in the cold. Not to mention driving the empty tank of coffee back to the Starbucks. Add the fact I am a senior and then you got applications and constantly writing essays trying to a convince places to accept me. I have been constantly worried about two things: 150K and college. The fear the failing either wells up in my brain racing back and forth in my mind. During these past few weeks, I have felt out of breath, tired from long days of CB work, and pretty beaten to the wall.

I love that feeling.

You have to. Raising 150K is not easy, but if it was easy, is it something to devote so much time to or to be proud of? That $10 I get from a house drives me to ask another twenty houses for another $10. I want to shout out to everyone in the room who give 110% on Student Council and still manage everything else in their lives. I already talked about other things going on in my life, but you know what, who doesn’t have their own agendas?

So once again, shout out to everyone who is working to their last breath and see all the work they have and dive headstrong into it. Specifically, shout out to my senior council, a group of the most reliable people I have ever seen and that I can fully trust. You don’t necessarily have to strive to raise the most money, but strive to put the most effort. I don’t know where I’ll be next year: Raleigh or Philadelphia. But right now I am here, Enloe Student Council 2017-18.

So to everyone on Stuco, keep that blood rushing. Keep the sensation in your gut as the calendar erodes down to December 9th. Keep getting no response and moving on. Keep loving what we are doing no matter how tired you get. Let the pressure of reaching the goal drive you and don’t let anything get in your way.
