COMMUNITY QUARTERBACK

Imagine this: there’s 5 minutes left in the game. You’re down by 5 points and the other team has the ball. Whistle blown. They throw it long, but wait, your team intercepted it! Whistle Blown. Your team now has the ball- it’s up to the quarterback. Will you win the game?

Southeast Raleigh Promise (SERP) is often referred to as the community quarterback, but what does that mean?

In football, a quarterback does not simply pass the ball but rather leads the team to victory. The quarterback leads the team to victory, through the many highs and lows. They communicate with their teammates on what plays to run and how to improve as a team. The quarterback needs his teams support to be successful. They highlight the specialties of the team and combine the unique talents of individuals to become better as a whole.

People, like teammates, need leaders. They need people in the community looking out for them and connecting them with others for mutual improvement.

SERP is our quarterback, and with them, we’re winning the game.

SERP connects businesses and people across the Raleigh community as they work to win the game to end intergenerational poverty in the Southeast Raleigh area. The Rocky Quarry Corridor has SERP looking out over its community to ensure that marginalized communities are heard and supported. Enloe, located in the Rock Quarry Corridor, is improved by SERP. Whether through volunteering, a YMCA membership, or a Halloween Trunk or Treat, the students of Enloe work with their quarterback on a day to day basis. Together, with SERP, everyone in our community will be heard; everyone in our community will prosper; everyone in our community will win.

So let’s get the ball to the quarterback and watch as they, along with their team, win the game. Let’s win this game, together.
