Leaving Your Mark

Arguably, the highlight of the annual Enloe Charity Ball is the moment when the “Big 5” stand at the top of the Marbles Museum stairs with more than 1000 pairs of eyes glued to them. When I think back to my sophomore year Charity Ball and the end of my first charity ball season, I can remember every moment of the check presentation, from the start of the VP of Service’s speech to the moment the black cloth was removed to reveal the $207K we had raised. At that moment, I felt like I had left a mark.

Enloe Charity Ball has also left its mark on me. For years to come, I will remember this organization and everything it has taught me. I have had so many opportunities to volunteer at many wonderful organizations. I’ve learned how to organize and lead events to raise funds. Most of all, I have learned about the importance of connection.

Every person who has contributed to the Charity Ball efforts has left their mark. From giving $5 to play in the kickball tournament and $44.06 for a ticket to the dance to writing thank you cards during lunch, caroling with other Enloe students, volunteering with the organization, and reposting graphics for charity ball fundraisers. Each small act directly supports the efforts of Enloe Charity Ball and leaves a mark: on the community at Enloe, the members of the community around us, and in the hearts of the people at the beneficiaries we support.

As the end of my final charity ball season approaches, I think to myself, “How have I left MY mark?” I hope my efforts to fundraise and volunteer this year can help someone at Haven House and I hope in the future I can inspire others to do the same for future beneficiaries.
