Not Just Numbers

dsc_0817It is very easy for people that are well off in society to neglect those below them and just imagine as if they are numbers. For example, I recently learned the fact that just a 1% decrease in unemployment leads to about 40,000 lives lost.  I was horrified.  That number, 40,000, isn’t even a number.  In fact, it is anything but a number.  It is mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and friends.  That is why it is so important to work towards helping the kin of our shared society, mother earth.  However, to actually do something about a problem and work towards a solution is evidently a big task to accomplish for many people or else all of the world’s problems would have been solved by now.

However, a few truly wonderful people have figured out what to do once they have made it.  They reap the benefits of their hard work and give back to the society that formed what they are now.  Would it surprise you if I told you that the top three givers of America all fought through the system at one time and are now at the top and giving back to the society that put them there?

The fact that every year, I work with a group of people who strive to accomplish various solutions to the world’s never ending problems, inspires me.  Every time I see them, I see my peers working hard not towards a goal of raising money or hosting a charity gala but to change lives and work towards solutions to the world’s problems.  This is why I join them every year to give back to the world that so graciously hosts us as one, a human race, every day.
