Absurdity

IMG_2428.JPGA month from today, we will be standing on the stairs at Marbles Kids Museum and presenting a check of $120,000 dollars to the deserving people who work at Urban Ministries. I would be lying if I said that this notion didn’t terrify me to an extent that I find difficult to describe, but recently, I have been thinking about how grateful I am to be in this absurd situation. Think about it: If any group of teenagers, anywhere other than Enloe, said that they wanted to raise $120,000 in essentially 2 months, you would probably laugh at them. And two years ago, honestly, I would have been laughing alongside you; however, when I went to Urban Ministries for the first time this October, my laughter ceased and turned into motivation, because to me, it is much more absurd that 130,000 residents of Wake County are unsure of where their next meal is coming from. I am incredibly lucky that I am not one of those people, and I get the privilege of raising money for an organization that strives to remedy this problem.

Investing your time and/or money into Urban Ministries is not only providing help for those in need, but they give all of the people that they serve peace of mind. No one should have to choose between paying their electric bill and feeding their family a nutritious meal, or between getting heat in the winter and paying for the medicine that they need. $120,000? No sweat, compared to how Urban Ministries creates a better way of life for countless individuals. So I am ready and willing to do my part to help us reach our goal, and I hope you all are too. We have 30 days left, and if you don’t think we’ll get it done, you’re crazy.
