“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”  – Coretta Scott King

Best.  Fastest Growing.  Healthiest.    These are just some of the words used to describe our area in national rankings.  Wake County is the place to be.  That’s why each day, over sixty new people move here.  It’s easy to be lulled into a sense that we are all doing well.

But that’s not always the case.  Drug and alcohol abuse.  Domestic violence.  Child abuse.  Mental illness.  Debilitating illnesses leading to financial ruin.  Many people in our community are in crisis.  These challenges are seen every day within the walls of the courthouse.  They are seen every day on the streets of our city and county if we are looking.

The distance between temporary crisis, and homelessness and devastation can be short.    But the ability to intervene and help people stay, or get back on, their feet exists if we do our part.  That’s the belief that serves as the foundation for the Oak City Multi-Services Center.  It’s a commitment to our collective desire to want to live in a community that is known for its greatness.

We have our chance to show our compassion by supporting the Enloe Charity Ball whose proceeds will support this important project.  As student leaders and supporters of Enloe, we can make sure our community lives up to its accolades.  I hope you will join me in doing so.
