One thing I have learned from my role at Southeast Raleigh Promise is that community organizing is not easy! It can be messy and all-consuming. I can only imagine the work it has taken Enloe Charity Ball over the years to mobilize their community to create positive lasting change. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to observe some of their magic a few weeks ago when I attended the Enloe Student Council Annual Retreat. As I listened in on the planning for this year’s fundraising and volunteer efforts, I was in awe over the strategy, creativity, and motivation coming from the young change makers.

Southeast Raleigh Promise’s partnership with Enloe Charity Ball this year is truly exciting in so many ways! Over the last two months, Enloe volunteers have been engaging with Southeast Raleigh Elementary students through Club ROAR, a unique after school program supporting academic intervention, enrichment and enhancement. It’s been inspiring watching students supporting students, and the fostering of future youth leadership and community organizing in Southeast Raleigh.

Holistic community revitalization requires complex and innovative solutions, and we believe these solutions are found within the community, and in collaboration with partners like Enloe. When youth have the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, they become architects of their futures, engaged citizens, and positive agents of change in their communities. We are beyond honored to work with such a remarkable group of young community organizers, and witness their impact on the youth and families in Southeast Raleigh.
