MAGICAL

I can describe the entire Enloe Charity Ball process in one word: Magical. I discovered the magic of Charity Ball last year when I was a sophomore, luckily appointed to council after losing the election for the second year in a row. I knew that I was at the lowest level of the chain of command, so I thought that I was just going to be tasked with the unimportant, borderline busy work tasks to get done. I was very wrong about this. Very soon, I was put on a 3 person team to plan the Space Jam concert. For the next 3 months, I worked and stressed constantly about this event, all while trying to raise the most money I can, and it was, honestly, amazing. As a wee little sophomore, I was put in charge of grown-up things, and while it was overwhelming at times, I loved it. I was communicating with bands to keep everyone on the same page, emailing and calling adults and businesses asking for donations, working with venues to make sure we have contracts signed and tickets sold, stressing over the last $200,000 we have to raise in a week, unveiling two-hundred-and-five-thousand-dollar-checks, and then finishing up my English essay that was due on Monday.

This is not an experience that regular high school kids get to have. This is not an experience that regular people get to have.

We are a group of kids doing non-kid things, and we are doing a damn good job at it.

This year, our beneficiary, Southeast Raleigh Promise, is amazing at presenting the magic of Charity Ball. This is because it can be seen directly through those wide, bright, toothy smiles of the Southeast Raleigh Elementary school kids. The money we raise this year for SERP is just the beginning of something great, an immense and immediate change right down the road from our school. The magic of Charity Ball is going to be seen more this year than ever, and I couldn’t be more excited about it.
