As a child, I was told by my parents, teachers, and mentors that I could change the world. I believed them at first but after a certain age, the concept of changing the world became unattainable. When I thought of people who had changed the world, I thought of Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, and Gandhi; how could I have as big of an impact as they did? My mindset changed completely when I discovered Enloe Charity Ball.
As a freshman, I was introduced to the world of Enloe Charity Ball: the excitement, the passion, the work, and most importantly, the impact. As I watched a group of less than 100 high school students raise 200,000 dollars for a beneficiary in a matter of months, I came face to face with the reality that change is at our fingertips. We don’t have to start a movement or lead a revolution to change the world; we can make a difference in one person’s life at a time, which is exactly what this year’s beneficiary, Haven House Services, does. With every youth facing homelessness or crisis that Haven House serves, they change the world, one person at a time.
So as a junior this year, I am thrilled to be a part of the student council as we raise 150,000 dollars to support Haven House Services and do our part to change the world.
