Gratitude, Privilege, and Honor

It’s almost been 3 years since I was given the privilege and honor to have stepped foot through Mr. Lewis’ doors for the first Great Council meeting. Walking through those doors as a freshman was an unforgettable moment. As a freshman, I would never have guessed that Student Council would have such a big impact on my life and teach me more lessons than I can remember. There is no boss here; a person who will solely order you to do things. No, we are a team: we eat together, sleep together, cry together, and celebrate together. We are a team that works together to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a difference in our Raleigh community, as we have for the past 16 years.

I was a Freshman Advisor, and was given the honor of being a part in the raising of $207,000 for Southeast Raleigh Promise (SERP). Working with these students allowed me to take a step back and look at the things I had, leading to a realization. While I was teaching these students, they would all have the brightest smiles when talking to me and asking me for help with their school work or with their lives at home, but every time I talked to them, I found myself growing more and more unsettled with myself as a person. These students were going through much more difficult troubles than I was at home. I complained about many things, but being thankful was seldom. These students were able to have a smile on their face and be happy with how they were currently living, but here I was, complaining about such futile things.

I am now the Junior Class President, and this year, I was given the honor and privilege to assist in the raising of $150,000 for Haven House Services. At this current point in time, I have high hopes for us reaching our goal. When I learned that the students who lived in Haven House Services included students who were in the same age range as me and had no home, it made me realize that I should once again be thankful. There are students who I could be sitting with in my classes who are a part of the program at Haven House Services. Being given the privilege of serving the students at Haven House Services this year would be my honor.

I am always especially thankful to the Student Council at Enloe, for giving me the privilege and honor to serve the students at Enloe High School. This year, I am also in charge of Prom, and I can assure you that I will work my hardest to create the most surreal and memorable Prom that we’ve ever had. Thank you Juniors this year, for giving me the privilege and honor to serve you all. Thank you students at Enloe High School.

Frank Chung
Junior Class President
