Kickball for a Cause

This year I spearheaded the Kickball Tournament. I had worked on the Kickball Tournament in my Sophomore year and I made jokes about having one this year in my campaigns. The Kickball Tournament is an event in which Enloe clubs come together to play Kickball, collect funds, and raise awareness for ECB. Kickball’s purpose is not to raise money, but to bring together the Enloe community for a fun day of teamwork and friendly competition.

This year was our biggest turnout yet with 24 teams and at least 260 students in attendance.

But, it’s not only the tournament that pleasantly surprised me. The leadership and initiative in my committee are the reasons the Tournament ran so smoothly. ECB cultivates student leadership and provides an outlet for involvement in our school community. I think Whitney Hall and Nashbi Cruz-Martinez in particular who stayed up hours in the days leading up to the event and poured over every detail to ensure a successful day-of. They thought of everything, they offered great opinions, and they gave me advice. Their positive and eager attitudes refocused me on an integral part of Student Council: Kids Doing Not Kid Things! Kids becoming leaders and taking action in their communities.

Enloe Charity Ball, whether raising money, volunteering, or playing kickball, brings out the best in students. Leadership thrives and ECB allows for creative ideas such as the Kickball Tournament to become a reality and even staples in our fundraising season. I can’t wait to watch the leaders who grow through Enloe Charity Ball in the years to come, and I will be in attendance at next year’s Kickball Tournament.
