Reassurance

Feeling safe, feeling that you’ll be okay, feeling sure that no matter what happens, your loved ones will be ok. Isn’t that something everyone wants? The assurance that you or your loved ones will be okay even in a matter of crisis. I never knew that this was something that people all around my community had to feel. I did not know that your very basic health was a privilege to have. Approximately 26 million Americans are faced with the difficulty of being uninsured and not knowing if they will get the help they need in a crisis. Alliance Medical Ministry is this year’s Enloe Charity Ball’s benefactor and in so many ways is a lifesaver, literally and metaphorically. AMM helps uninsured, working adults make ends meet by providing comprehensive primary care. This provides a better life for their children as well, giving them a brighter future.

Being able to work with AMM these past months has uncovered for me a new side of the Medicare system plaguing America and how some are not able to access healthcare. Seeing their goals and motivation to help those people has influenced me and many others to help with their cause.

One day the executives announced the Mini Charity Ball to be hosted at Hunter Elementary. I didn’t really think of it much more than a way to earn volunteering hours. In the end, I decided to volunteer in order to just see what the actual Enloe Charity could look like. I didn’t plan for it to be something big, I just wanted to help out and a change in scenery. Seeing the children’s smiles and their joy really brought some new kind of fulfillment. I’m so ecstatic to be able to work with the student council of Enloe and be able to help host Charity Ball for organizations like AMM. After seeing how fun Mini Charity Ball is, I can’t wait for the real one.
