Impacting My Community

I live in Southeast Raleigh. In my community, many of us live similar lifestyles. Living in a neighborhood where we know resources are slim but living with the sense that we have more than enough. I visibly see some of my neighbors going through health difficulties, many unable to get the help they need due to lack of insurance. I see the struggles of the family trying to help and cope with yet another battle. It’s difficult and gut-wrenching to watch. Wishing that there was something that I could do, feeling lost and hopeless in finding the solution. I asked myself, How do I make a difference in my community? How do I help fix the issues at hand knowing that the issues affect my life too? HOW? I asked that question many times as I was growing up and finally, in High School, I found an answer.

The answer was Enloe Charity Ball. I knew that I had to join this organization once I came to Enloe. This organization isn’t about raising money to amaze people. It isn’t about trying to look good for college applications. It is here to make a difference and impact the community. I get to be part of an organization where we strive to help make long-term impacts in organizations and the community they serve through volunteering, publicity, and raising money.

“Alliance Medical Ministry provides access to compassionate, whole-person primary care for working, uninsured adults in order to reduce health disparities in Wake County.” AMM is working to establish healthy and sustainable lives for adults through healthcare and other services. They are not just fixing and solving short-term health issues rather they are teaching and introducing ways to stay healthy that will affect their life long term. These sustainability practices not only affect the adult but also affects their family, which creates generational blessings and affects the future of the family.

The best part about being in this organization is the fact that I get to see this impact in my community. I know that I am no longer complacent about the struggles of my neighbors and I get to work alongside a team of people who is ready to make an impact as well.
