The Last Dance

“17 seconds, from Game 7 or from Championship #6. Jordan…open…he shoots…CHICAGO WITH THE LEAD!”

These are the words that were announced by the commentator as Michael Jordan made the jump shot that won him and the Chicago Bulls their 6th NBA Championship. They referred to that season as “The Last Dance” because it was the last year that Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls had a chance to win another championship; this year is my Last Dance.

Enloe Charity Ball has played such an integral role in my life that working has virtually become 2nd nature—I often find myself walking to Ms. Schroeder’s classroom even when we don’t have a meeting! I never stopped working because every time we presented our check to our beneficiaries, it felt like we won an NBA championship. After the past 3 years of sending emails, going door to door for donations, and organizing events, I didn’t think it would end. However, like Jordan, this is my final chance to make an impact with Enloe Charity Ball.

This year being my last Charity Ball has only driven me to work harder. In my final year, I want to make my mark on the southeast Raleigh community, just like Michael Jordan did with that shot. There’s no better way to do that than raising money for Alliance Medical Ministry. An organization that provides comprehensive care to working uninsured adults will not only have an immediate effect but a long-term impact on our community.

This year will be my best and final championship. I hope that when we’re holding up the $175,000 check, it feels like Michael Jordan hitting that game-winning shot.
