Not Just A Dance

Even before attending Enloe, I’d always been interested in joining its Student Council. And before I knew it, I was campaigning for a spot as a freshman-class senator. I didn’t know how much my experience would change my life back then.

I became part of a committee full of intelligent people with one common goal: fundraising. As a middle school student, I thought Charity Ball was just a dance. But visiting and volunteering at Neighbor to Neighbor, our beneficiary this year, fundamentally changed the way I thought. I truly understood N2N’s mission: helping people reach their full potential when they weren’t given the opportunity.

In my committee, we planned school events like the basketball tournament and 2A Wars to raise money. These events might only seem like fun, but they bring our school together in a way that’s enriching for students while fundraising.

I can’t wait to see the Big Five walk into Marbles holding a big check on Charity Ball night. That check is the final product of all our hard work organizing these events. More importantly, it all goes back to our community. Knowing that I contributed to such an impact is empowering, and seeing its culmination myself is a memory I will hold forever. If I hadn’t joined Student Council, I would’ve never been empowered to become this involved in my community. Being in Student Council makes me feel like I was a part of something bigger than me, something that matters.

Now, I’ve realized Charity Ball isn’t just a dance, it’s what makes Enloe so special, and makes an impact on our community.
