When I first joined Charity Ball, the pressure to meet the goal seemed overwhelming. But with the rest of council, I soon discovered that our collaboration is able to realize a seemingly impossible goal. The power of ECB comes not only from this collaboration among the students involved, but also the administration. The Big Five works tirelessly to lead the five committees of Outreach, Finance, Publicity, Service, and Logistics, in which each student can find a way to apply their skills.
But during the Charity Ball season, it doesn’t matter if you’re a class advisor or Student Body President. Your contribution to Charity Ball comes first. My sophomore year, I served in Publicity, where I found that I could combine my interest in photography and video with ECB. I took photos and videos at various Charity Ball fundraising events, such as the Kickball tournament, which were published on the ECB Instagram. Junior year, I produced a teaser video for Charity Ball for our Instagram, a video that has since received over 3,200 views.
I also discovered another value of the organization as I volunteered for Alliance Medical Ministry: Beneficiaries receive not only monetary benefits, but thousands of dollars worth of volunteer hours. This year, I am continuing to focus on film and video, but also taking part in the various events that help us reach our monetary goal. With each new year at Charity Ball, I have found new values and new appreciation for the organization.
