Charity Ball is so special because it proves that students can get involved and organize together in order to make a positive change. It’s easy to sit and look at complex issues in our community and think they are too big to be addressed by high school students. In a world so heavily characterized by self-involvement and individualism, seeing young people actively contributing to the welfare of others is refreshing. It brings everyone together, whether you’re on council or not; at the end of the day, if you bought a ticket, shared an instagram post, or showed up to a fundraising event, you made a difference.
As a first-year member of council, I was completely oblivious to how much effort goes into the execution of Charity Ball. It has taught me a lot about accountability and consistency, because everyone has a vital role to fulfill. Volunteering at Neighbor to Neighbor and meeting people that dedicate themselves to service makes me feel proud to be a part of this incredible community.
