It’s easy to think of track as a highly individual sport, but one thing I’ve learned is the power of the people around me, every day. Each race, each practice, and each moment on the track is filled with a healthy dose of teammates pushing each other, celebrating wins together, and propping each other up in the face of disappointment. Understanding the community and how people rally around us has taught me that real strength does not stem from the individuals but from the collective people who stand beside you.
Our school event is as much a celebration of community as it is a good time. This year, we’re teaming up with Note in the Pocket, a charity that gives out clothes to children in need. I know that our contributions can take a child from a state of uncertainty to one of happiness and pride. Knowing this is what gets me involved in doing everything I can to help out.
Coming from someone who is passionate about anything that combines compassion with action, the analogy of the track is clear. Every single contribution to Charity Ball is another brick in the foundation of a more beautiful, kinder society.
