Summer of ‘25

In the scorching summer heat, I was pedaling and pedaling my bicycle along the gravelly roads. Sweat was dripping down my face, and I wiped it clean. I looked up, closing my eyes, as a cold breeze passed through me. It was the summer of 2025, the summer before high school, the summer before a new me.

I walked through the school’s door. I’ve heard so much about the new people, the clubs, the classes, all of it swarming through me at once. I blinked, and suddenly, a month later, it’s September. I was sitting at a desk in the middle of the media center. The Promethean board had “Student Council Interest Meeting” written on it. I snapped back to where I am, realizing the passion and happiness I would gain from this one organization.

The week following was campaign week, one full of stress and hard work. All my time and effort led to a great outcome: I was elected to the position I’d been dreaming of since walking through those doors, senator.

In the weeks that followed, I attended multiple meetings, and the Big 5 announced a fall retreat. We would be there from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to learn about our beneficiary, Note In The Pocket. They also introduced Charity Ball, and it all seemed like too much to handle. I initially thought it would be impossible to raise this much money.

The first few days of emails came around, and we’d already earned over $1,000. I was mesmerized by how we could make such a difference in the community with so little effort. That same sense of awe is what helped me build passion and commitment towards this organization. Through this, I found a purpose in my community. ECB has shown me dedication, commitment, and purpose, all of which are defining factors in becoming a successful person in the future.

GO EAGLES!
