img_9930-jpgIt’s already November 18. Charity Ball season is more than halfway over. During these past few weeks, I’ve been continually asking myself why. Why did I join student council? Why did I decide to dedicate 2 months of my life to this event? Why do I care so much?
I’ve realized that my answer to all these questions is essentially the same: I want to make a difference in my community.
My freshman year, student council raised 92,000 dollars for Interfaith. I was shocked and honestly a little confused. How did a group of rowdy 14-18 year olds do this? How could the same group of kids raise 26,000 MORE dollars the following year?
Then again, it wasn’t just student council. It was the work of teachers, parents, relatives, managers, business owners, even chain stores! The entire community had to come together, recognize its issues, and decide to help change them.
And they did. Enloe has raised nearly a million dollars since the first Charity Ball, and we’re just getting started. It’s only 12 years old. Who knows what the future holds?
So in these last few crucial weeks, we need to reach out to the people we haven’t reached, call the businesses we haven’t called, go door to door in neighborhoods we haven’t gone door to door in. We need to do everything in our power to hit that $120,000 goal. We need to want this, not just for ourselves but the thousands of people who are counting on us.
I believe that we’ve all thought about our roles in our communities, asked ourselves why, and come to the same answer: we want to do something meaningful for the people around us. And that’s why we’re #AllinforUrban Min.
