Outlier

Winter for me has always meant giant coats and freezing while walking to first period. I can vividly remember Charity Ball 2018 with snow lining the downtown sidewalks as I shivered in my dress and heels. Cold weather around here is synonymous with trying to cover up and shelter ourselves from the harsh conditions. Trees lose all of their leaves, flowers shrivel up, grass becomes dry and sparse, and the majority of our world is covered with a blanket of barren cold.

Charity Ball is the outlier in this situation. Every year, a ray of new opportunity shines through in the Raleigh community for one non-profit organization that makes an impact in the lives of hundreds. Spring is normally seen as the season of beginnings and awakening, but ECB defies those expectations and provides a feeling of warmth and welcoming for a group of high school students to come together for a greater cause. The phrase “Alive with Purpose,” represents the student body rallying around Haven House services and many new partners in the future to create warm, welcoming relationships through the winter and beyond.
