A Voice for Good

“Did you get enough donuts, Mom?”

It was December 4th, about a week before 2021’s Charity Ball. I was hosting a slew of other Enloe students to meet for caroling near my house. I checked the sign-up for it and was surprised to see that twenty-five students would be coming – at least twenty more guests than I’d anticipated. Enthusiastically, I went out and bought many snacks and Christmas attires for the carolers (on my parents’ dime). I was so excited to combine the spirit of Charity Ball with Christmas… After all, they are two of my favorite things. One after another, the carolers started to show up and it became clear to me that there would be even more than the twenty-five that had rsvp’d. The crowd was composed of people I knew from various settings, from my brother’s friends to student council peers to random classmates. Despite this, we all collaborated efficiently because of our common goal: to raise money for that year’s nonprofit, Haven House Services.

Caroling, and other events that comprise Enloe Charity Ball, allow for student council members to spend time in fellowship; having tons of fun while raising funds to benefit the selected charity. We all want to do good and be alive with purpose, achieving shared goals and bonding over shared values. Even though we’re young, our voices are powerful and we have the ability to make a difference. This is my second year on the Enloe Student Council and therefore my second Charity Ball season. I’m astonished by what we have been able to accomplish, and I can not wait to see what the future will bring for this important, beloved Enloe tradition. We have already been able to plan and do more this year than last year; I believe this upward trend will continue in the future.

We only have a couple of weeks left until the big event, and every moment matters. I can’t wait to use our voices for good to carol again this year, this time with yet another deserving organization: Alliance Medical Ministry.
