Snowflake

Snowflakes are winter’s most alluring creations, formed by interactions with the atmosphere along their journey from the sky to the ground. The slightest chance of snow in Raleigh stirs so much excitement, yet the beauty of individual snowflakes is invisible to the naked eye. These mere specks of white hold so much artistic complexity that can only be seen through a microscope. At Enloe, there’s one event that holds as much anticipation as a possible snow day: Charity Ball, the most exquisite snowflake of the season!

From afar, Charity Ball is a snowfall of events leading up to the big dance that benefits a select local nonprofit. Enloe halls are buzzing with excitement about dates and dresses through December. However, student council has served as my microscope into the detail, passion, and collaboration involved behind the scenes. In my past two years on council, I have not only had the privilege to observe and admire all the effort that goes into Enloe Charity Ball, led by excellent student leaders and sparked by a drive to serve the community, but I’ve also taken part in it. Contributed to it. Immersed myself in it. I can see the dedication put into each physical publicity banner, each dollar earned by caroling, and each email sent to possible donors, among many more details. This eye-opening insight has inspired a greater appreciation for being “alive with purpose”.

Charity Ball season seems to come and go as fast as a snowflake falls, but as a snowflake’s design is formed in a few short seconds from the sky to the ground, our purpose and mission are achieved in a few short months.

I am honored to play a small part in the 2022 Enloe Charity Ball, and I can’t wait to reveal the “snowflake” we have been intently cultivating to the Enloe student body and Raleigh community on December 10th. May the upcoming weeks bring glittering flurries and a dazzling charity ball!
