“Referee! Referee!..” The words rang out on Enloes practice field. We had been robbed, our last year here. As a Senior at Enloe High School, a part of student council and charity ball, I am heavily involved within the organization of school held events. While I had participated in Enloes annual kickball tournament for the last three years, this year was especially important. Not only was I participating in the tournament, I was a part of the planning. This past school year so far has been an amazing experience and lesson for me, from hosting christmas caroling, to going to wingstop with other council members after volunteering, I view Enloes student council as a big family. Signing up for this year’s tournament I was excited and prepared. In my sophomore year we had gotten second place with a huge blowout and junior year being a first round exit, my group was out for revenge. As we approached the final game, we weren’t leaving with anything but first. While we played our hearts out, we came down to a tiebreaker, a tiebreaker we lost. To what I consider the biggest enloe controversy ever, I felt like England in the 1986 World Cup, Robbed. Despite the sore loss, I found myself growing closer to my fellow council members and fellow classmates. While the annual Kickball match comes out to be a small droplet in the bucket that is Enloe Charity Ball, it is something that means a lot and will stay with me forever, not as just a fun and exciting game, but also somewhere that friends became family.
