Community

To me, Charity Ball means Community. Each year, a strong sense of community develops through the Charity Ball process – not only between members of the Student Council or the larger school community, but with the entire area around Enloe.

It’s clear why the sense of community is strong for members of Student Council: we work closely, stressing together and celebrating when the work is done. That teamwork results in strong bonds that last even past December.

That community experience extends to the entire Enloe student body. So many groups care about Charity Ball’s success: players raising money playing kickball, the dance and music departments holding a Winter show to help, people donating items for the auction fundraiser, and teachers collecting money in their classrooms. And of course, lots of students attend the actual Charity Ball, which is the most fun community event of all.

Charity Ball also builds community around Enloe by always selecting a recipient that helps Southeast Raleigh. Each year we work to support different parts of the community, including some that aren’t obvious, like healthcare and kids who live nearby. We partner closely with the organizations and serve them through volunteer hours, and at the end, our charity recipients feel like they know Enloe and our students.  This effort strengthens the school’s ties with the community around us.

These reasons are why I think Charity Ball is all about community, and I feel lucky to participate.
