“We need food donations for 2,000 students.”
I remember hearing about this one of my first days in Enloe Charity Ball, being surprised by such a large task that proved more thrilling than I ever would have anticipated. “Duck Donuts agreed to donate 3 dozen for the dance!” “The Peach Cobbler Factory is donating cups of banana pudding and cobbler – you know the students are gonna love this one.” After being part of Enloe Charity Ball’s logistics committee, I’ve learned that behind every moment of gathering food and monetary donations for Enloe Charity Ball comes a strengthening bond between every member of Student Council.
Valuing every last moment as a Senior in Enloe High School, I find that this bond with my fellow council members can truly never be broken. I cherish the memories of arriving at Enloe at 6:30 am to hand out hot chocolate and donuts to our student body, helping plan and participating in kickball and pickleball tournaments, and singing carols to raise money for our beneficiaries. Still, most of all, seeing how every effort and dollar we put into Charity Ball goes to such an exceptional cause: giving back to the community we learn and thrive within almost every day.
In my last 6 months with Enloe Charity Ball, I’ll look back upon this organization as one of the most memorable communities I’ve ever joined. From every exciting moment of receiving a food donation, every loving bakery owner smiling as they hand over boxes of food, and behind every bite of baked goods we work hard to gather, I am reminded of the larger goal Enloe Charity Ball has fulfilled for 20 years – to give love to our nurturing community.
